Lesson Objectives
Students will be able to discuss “Electricity Outage”
Students will discuss the causes and effects of the problem.
Students will make a video presentation and upload to Facebook and the best videos will be shared on the page of the language center.
Warm-up and Objective Discussion
Warm-up:
Students will be shown the some old pictures of Karachi. The pictures will indicate that Karachi used to be the city of lights. But the dark prevailed through unannounced load-shedding due to power shortage. The photos in the power point slides will show the past and present situations of Karachi.
Students will be asked some reasons of loadshedding. They will come up with their views and reasons.
Objective Discussion:
Today we are going to have discussion on load-shedding issue. You will be given vocabulary related to the topic.
You will learn their pronunciations through using your online dictionaries. Students will use their online resources to find out the reasons behind load-shedding and come up with their ideas to resolve the issue. Students will make talk show videos in group through role-play.
Instruct and Model
Students will be taught a list of vocabulary related to the topic. The Cambridge Advanced learners’ dictionary will be used to teach pronunciations and the word use as well.
Students will type their own sentence examples of the same words.
Students will be shown a video in which these words in particular have been used. The video shows all of the possible causes and their effects. The video also talks about alternative solutions. The students will be divided into 4 groups, each group will have 4 members.
They will go through internet through their devices and do their research.
Guided Practice
Students will look for information and they will have group discussion after they have searched information.
Students will have role-play conversation in group. They will have a talk show in which one will be host the others will be different characters.
They will record their arguments.
Independent Practice
Each group will be asked to make a video presentation of the role-play with some good costumes to make the videos colorful.
Model and instruction:
Students will be given video-making instruction through an online source.
Assessment
The best videos will be selected for the positions and posted to the page.
